Pillans, J. Coleman
John Coleman "Big Daddy" Pillans, age 84, passed from this life into the arms of Jesus on October 12, 2011 in Abilene with his family around him. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 15, 2011 at First Baptist Church in Cross Plains with Pastor Ronnie B. White officiating; burial will follow in the Atwell Cemetery. Visitation will be at Higginbotham Funeral Home on Friday, October 14th from 6 to 7 p.m.
He was born on July 25, 1927 to Benjamin Palmer Sr. and Nona Ann (Foster) Pillans in Atwell, Texas. After graduating from high school he joined the U.S. Navy. He married Mary Day on August 19, 1950 in Baird.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Pillans of Cross Plains, daughter, Pamela Furlow of Lubbock, brother, Benjamin P. Pillans, Jr. of Abilene, sisters, Ruby Moore of Abilene, Roxie Fletcher and Nona Belote both of Cross Plains, 5 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
