Richard Purvis, age 92, of Abilene met his Lord and Savior on Monday, September 8, 2014 at his home. Funeral Services will be on Friday, September 12, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Cross Plains with Donnie Harboers assisted by Ronnie White. Burial will follow in the Old Cottonwood Cemetery in Callahan County.
Richard was born on January 3, 1922, in Cottonwood, TX to LM (Fred) & Sarah Reed Purvis. He was raised on a farm with seven brothers and on sister. He joined the Navy in 1944 and is a WWII veteran. He married Janell Joy on July 10, 1948 and graduated from Texas A&M in 1950.
Richard and Jeanell taught in various schools until retirement. After retirement, they worked for Campers on Mission and helped build churches throughout the U.S. Richard loved the Lord, his family and his country.
He is survived by his wife Jeanell, sister Evelyn Meehan of San Marcus, daughters Shirley Morrison and Sara Isenburg of Abilene, son, Dennis Purvis of Christoval, TX. Grandchildren: Mindy Morrison, Dustin Phillips, Jason Morrison, Jenny Kneuper, Laura Hughes, Kari Hale, Rusty Isenburg and 15 great-grandchildren.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Guy, Jay, John Thomas, Eugene, Hugh, Golden and Bobby Joe.
