Duward B. (Dude) Gunn

Cross Plains, Texas

Duward B. (Dude) Gunn, age 90, a resident of Cross Plains, passed away Friday morning, March 12, 2010. Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 15, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Higginbotham Funeral Chapel in Cross Plains with Don Davis officiating assisted by Bob Pipes; burial will follow in the Cross Cut Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday and Sunday afternoon from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Amel and Cora; and by his brothers, Howard, James T., and Pete; as well as his sisters, Lillie, Ruth, and Eva.

He is survived by a brother, Paul and his wife Betty, and their three sons of Odessa, TX; as well as five nieces and two nephews.

He was a Sergeant in the army during WWII (1942-1946). He was first in Gainesville, Texas and England, then with the D Day Forces (+1) through the Battle of the Bulge, and was then part of the Occupation Forces in Germany.

He was a member of the Cross Plains Church of Christ. He was a lover of Bluegrass Music; a Published Poet (and the unofficial Poet Laureate of Cross Plains) and a friend to every child he ever met.

Dude spent his working years in Goldsmith, TX at the Phillips Petroleum Plant and retired home in 1982.

He will be sorely missed by all who knew him. "His like will not come this way again".
